IOSH Working Safely with attitude

Overview

A course that not only gives you the knowledge required to pass the IOSH end of course assessment, but also provides you with skills to influence your working environment and cultivates the right attitude to:

  • Lead by example, further enhancing the H&S Culture
  • Discount shortcuts that sacrifice safety
  • Highlight unsafe working conditions and practices to superiors
  • Stand up for good, sensible Health and Safety

Who is it for

Behavioural Change requires all employees to play their part and improve the H&S culture of the organisation they work in. The course is suitable for all employees regardless of working environment.

Content

The IOSH element of the course is split into 5 modules:

  • Introducing Working Safely - H&S responsibilities
  • Defining Hazard and Risk - Risk Assessment
  • Identifying Common Hazards - Hazards associated with Construction, Warehouse & Office work
  • Improving Safety Performance - H&S management systems, responsibilities, performance measurement
  • Protecting Our Environment - Waste, pollution, environmental management

As well as weaving behavioural aspects into the delivery IOSH elements of the course, 4 discreet modules have been added to the course to sit betwixt the existing IOSH modules.

Behavioural modules

1a. Your Culture - Introduction to Behavioural Safety, H&S culture in your company

  • Your company's H&S Culture?
  • Your personal attitude to H&S?
  • Barriers to H&S - what stops you doing the right thing, why do we still take risks?
  • Human 'Error' and 'Violation'

2a. Gambling with Life - Risk Chance and Probability, true risk perception

  • Truths about the assessment of risk
  • Mental risk assessment when crossing the road
  • Dicing with Death - re-evaluating risk, if we keep taking chances, the risk will always win in the end!

3a. Human Factors as Hazards - Ergonomics as a hazard

  • Examples of human factors problems and their solutions

4a. Improving your performance - Influencing behaviour/culture

  • Personal influence on Job, Individual and Organisational Factors
  • Group exercise (small groups) - "What do we want individuals to do differently?"

5a. ASK yourself - Behavioural element summary and close
