Management of Work at Confined Spaces Training Course

A 3½ day training course to learn to be responsible for the supervision or management of confined spaces entries, where work has been assessed and classified as risk level NC2, NC3 or NC4 (medium and high risk) under the Water UK scheme. Note, delegates/customers enrolling in the training course may opt out of the final day of assessment, and the full certification process, if they require a certificate of attendance only.

What you will learn

  • Teaches delegates to interpret and apply the Water UK National Standards to confined spaces working.
  • To undertake risk assessments of work in confined spaces.
  • To develop, communicate and install safe systems of work and safe methods of work at confined spaces.
  • To work with permits to work.
  • To select, install and maintain appropriate control measures including hygiene procedures.
  • To understand the mechanisms of atmosphere testing, monitoring and ventilation procedures.
  • To select gas monitoring or testing equipment, harness, hoists, winches and fall arrest systems and escape or working breathing apparatus.
  • To develop, install and maintain appropriate emergency procedures and plans.
  • To maintain necessary documentation for Confined Spaces Working.
  • To select, brief and deploy staff at Confined Spaces and control them effectively during changing working conditions.

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • Confined Space Management Courses incorporates assessment and certification under the City and Guilds Level 5 Award in Managing Work in Confined Spaces; part of the City and Guilds Frontline Skills Framework Utilities 5831 scheme unit 972 - Supervision of Work at Confined Spaces.

How is this training delivered?

  • The theoretical elements of the training course are delivered in the classroom with a table top exercise, but there is an emphasis on practical hands on training and experience to demonstrate the exercises in practice.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Delegates participating should bring their own safety footwear, waterproof clothing, high visibility vest/clothing, hard hat and working gloves for the practical exercises. We have a selection of harnesses but please bring your own harness if you wish.
  • Delegates can bring with them any materials used by their own employer, copies of risk assessments or permits to work so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the managing confined spaces training.
