A 8 day training course for persons who undertake pre-construction site visits, who carry out site surveys, liaise with local authorities and customers, complete health, safety and environmental plans and support operations teams in the process of network construction.

  • Relevant legislation and codes of practices including the Construction Regulations (CDM), the Traffic Management Act, and the New Roads and Streetworks Act (NRSWA).
  • The avoidance of underground apparatus when planning excavations and the interpretation of utility maps.
  • To lay, test and commission Polyethylene Pipe services.
  • Butt Fusion/Electro Fusion techniques.
  • Main-laying techniques.
  • Bag Stop operations.
  • Squeeze off connections, pressure testing and mains purging.
  • Lone working, minimising risks.

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • This course incorporates assessment and certification under the City and Guilds Frontline Skills Framework Utilities 5831 scheme for Mains and Service Laying and the appreciation of the Traffic Management Act.

How is this training delivered?

  • Theory is delivered in the classroom but there is an emphasis on hands on practical learning and experience to better equip delegates with the understanding of network Construction.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Delegates should bring a helmet, high visibility clothing, safety boots and safety glasses, overalls and working gloves.
  • Delegates can bring with them any materials used in their work, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
