A 5 day training course for persons who design specifications for gas distribution systems, housing and service planners or utility network designers. Delegates must be technically competent and must have been nominated by a reviewing manager for competent persons and authorising engineers with the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience, to authorise work on gas apparatus. Delegates must have access to and have read the relevant documentation prior to joining the course, and would generally have completed training in Safe Control of Operations (SCO 1 & 2).

What you will learn

  • The legal framework: Gas Safety Management Regulations 1996; Pipeline Safety Regulations.
  • Design of gas service (IGE/TD/4): Sizing; Method of installation; Entry into buildings; Valves; Pressure testing; Commissioning.
  • Design of gas mains (IGE/TD/3 and IGE/GL/7): Demand; Pressure; Velocity; Routing; Materials; Network analysis; Safety assessment.
  • Construction planning.
  • Connections, testing, purging, commissioning.
  • Preparation of a safety case for the HSE (IGE/GL/7)

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • This course incorporates assessment and certification under the City and Guilds Frontline Skills Framework Utilities 5831 scheme unit 950 Design of Low Pressure (75mbar) Gas Network.

How is this training delivered?

  • This is a classroom based course.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Delegates can bring with them any materials used in their work, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
