A 5 day accredited training course for persons who design specifications for gas distribution networks involving low pressure mains and services, this course will enable learners to begin to design and administer the laying of gas services and extensions to existing low pressure distribution mains networks within the framework for the liberalised gas market. A basic knowledge and understanding of the gas industry would be advantageous but not essential.

  • The legal framework: Gas Safety Management Regulations 1996; Pipeline Safety Regulations.
  • Design of gas service (IGE/TD/4): Sizing; Method of installation; Entry into buildings; Valves; Pressure testing; Commissioning.
  • Design of gas mains (IGE/TD/3 and IGE/GL/7): Demand; Pressure; Velocity; Routing; Materials; Network analysis; Safety assessment.
  • Construction planning.
  • Connections, testing, purging, commissioning.
  • Preparation of a safety case for the HSE (IGE/GL/7)

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • This course incorporates assessment and certification under the City and Guilds Frontline Skills Framework Utilities 5831 scheme unit 950 Design of Low Pressure (75mbar) Gas Network.

  • This is a classroom based course.

  • Delegates can bring with them any materials used in their work, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
