Authorised Person: Petroleum Refresher training course

A 3 day training course for authorised persons and authorising engineers who have a requirement to complete petroleum refresher training, to be eligible for re-appointment. Delegates who are appointed under safety rules, should be in possession of a completed and countersigned log book and should also be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of experience of mechanical systems and mechanical principles and theory.

  • The scope and application of the MOD Safety Rules for work on Petroleum installations.
  • Petroleum Products and Hazards, Combustible Gas Indicators and Oxygen Meters, Oxygen and Combustible tests.
  • Personal protective equipment and safety equipment.
  • Management, application and control of documentation.
  • Bulk Fuel Installations, Tanks, Valves, Pipelines, Filters.
  • Work on electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
  • Issue of Gas Free Certificates.
  • Isolation Methodology, Issue and cancellation of Permits to Work, Setting out of Restricted and Hazardous Areas.

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • The output from this course is a recommendation to support an Authorising Engineers decision when considering the appointment of Authorised Persons.

How is this training delivered?

  • Delegates on the petroleum refresher course complete practical exercises that involve the management, application and control of documentation. There is an emphasis on hands on experience wherever this is possible.
  • Assessment is by written paper on an isolation documentation exercise.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Delegates can bring with them any materials used by their own employer, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
