A ½ day training course for all persons working with, or supervising others working with, abrasive wheels and portable equipment. The training is tailored towards those involved in excavation of roads and construction of utilities but would be relevant to any person using portable equipment on site.

  • Abrasive Wheels - Definition, Identification and Specification, Size, Grade, Structure, Handling and Transportation, Inspection and Testing.
  • Mounting and using abrasive wheels.
  • Defining hazards & risks. Implementing risk control measures.

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • This course incorporates assessment and certification under the City and Guilds Frontline Skills Framework Utilities 5831 scheme - Changing, Mounting and Using Abrasive Wheels - Portable Machines.

How is this training delivered?

  • Theory is delivered in the classroom but there is an emphasis on demonstrating the practical application of the lessons learned by demonstration and practical exercises.
  • The City and Guilds qualification is assessed through the observation of a practical exercise and a written test paper.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Delegates should bring with them hearing protection, safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, working gloves and overalls/high visibility vests (waterproof clothing is advisable).
