Confined spaces seminar showcases DTL training capabilities
07 March 2017
Delegates gathered at Develop Training Ltd (DTL)’s Derby training centre today for the latest in our popular Confined Spaces Awareness seminars. Among the companies represented were Loughborough University, Lanes for Drains, QinetiQ, CWind, EMCOR, Hemsley Fraser, George Birchall, Agetur (UK), SGN, the Ministry of Defence and several NHS Trusts.
The group looked at past disasters involving confined spaces, discussing the Aberfan tragedy of 1966, Chernobyl, Piper Alpha and more, before moving on to the relevant legislation for confined spaces, how to identify a confined space and mitigate the associate risks.
Mike Todd of City & Guilds took the delegation through the HSE’s Code of Practice for Confined Spaces and how to approach a confined space application, before the group was led through a demonstration of appropriate breathing apparatus, suitable winching equipment and our extensive training unit.
Delegates also received a copy of our whitepaper ‘CONFINED SPACES: Training and Compliance for Safe Working’, which looks in detail at confined spaces and considers everything from their definition and the associated risks to employers’ duties and training requirements as set out in UK legislation.
