DTL welcomes Group Training Manager, Viktors Nikolajevs, to its York centre

09 August 2019

Viktors Nikolajevs has joined Develop Training Ltd (DTL) as Group Training Manager for Electrical, Mechanical and Facilities Management. Based at DTL’s York training centre, Viktors will head up DTL’s Electrical & Instrumentation, Electrotechnical, Safe Systems of Work and Legionella teams – each of which consists of experts in their particular field.

Originally from Latvia, Viktors moved to the UK with his parents in 2006. He quickly began training to be an engineer – starting with an HND in Electronic Engineering at Doncaster College before moving on to complete his degree at Hull University, and finally successfully completing a PGCE at Huddersfield University. During his studies Viktors taught English to speakers of other languages on a part-time basis and was also self-employed as a computer programmer. A man of many talents!

Since completing his education, Viktors has worked in various roles within Further Education (F.E.), including an Electrical Lecturer teaching 14-16 years, post-16 and adults at Doncaster College. He also has experience as a Lecturer and Curriculum Development Manager at Wakefield College where he taught apprentices from a number of well-known brands such as Coca-Cola and Unilever.

Viktors explains, “Due to an internal re-structure, this role is brand new to the business so I’m excited to make my mark - my team all have fantastic industry experience in their own right and I only hope that my experience in electrical engineering and staff management can add to that and strengthen the skill set that we offer to our clients.”

He continues, “DTL have a really broad range of clients, including many household names, and I’m very much looking forward to getting to know them and continuing to improve their training provision.”

Outside of work, Viktors lives in Doncaster with his partner, with whom he is expecting a little boy in September. Together they are frantically renovating their house, hoping that it will be ready in time to move into prior to welcoming their new arrival! Viktors is also a fan of keeping fit and watching horror movies in his spare time.
