New e-portfolio system set to speed up learning
19 January 2015
Develop Training advances in to the 21st Century of portfolio building with the introduction of Learning Assistant, an electronic portfolio system offering instant and remote access to the learner-assessor interface.
As the UK's leading accredited provider of Compliance, Technical and Safety Training, Develop Training has launched the City & Guilds platform to support the delivery of its market leading Apprenticeships, NVQ's, QCF's, SVQ's and VRQ's in Gas, Water and Business related disciplines.
With skills gaps being a major issue for UK industry, combined with the Government's commitment to address this problem through the backing of apprenticeships and other related schemes, Develop Training are actively improving the employer-learner experience of these qualifications. This is where initiatives like Learning Assistant come in to play.
Learning Assistant allows users to connect and interact within a fully supported and collaborative virtual learning environment. Through the system they are able to build up their portfolio of evidence using a range of mediums from video and voice recordings to photos and documents. The assessor can instantly view the work and provide valuable feedback to the learner via the platform.
"Learning Assistant is challenging us to rethink the traditional completion of NVQ portfolio's by using the types of technology and app's that have become common practice over recent years," comments Andy Holmes, Head of Audit and Quality Improvement at Develop Training.
Completing qualifications through this method is 40% quicker than the paper based portfolio's, which have proved to be cumbersome and time consuming, due to the need to travel from learner to learner. Learning Assistant also promotes a higher standard of internal verification and improves communication between learner and assessor.
Employers can also have access to the platform where they can monitor the progress of their employees and obtain professional progress reports. A number of Develop Training's major utility clients are already benefiting from the new system including Scottish Water and GTC.
Learning Assistant is suitable for all levels of computer knowledge. Develop Training can provide additional support for candidates who need it, whilst those with more knowledge can input the required information in to the systems at their convenience. A mix of delivery options can be put together to suit your needs.
