SGN Future Leaders complete training with DTL

Develop Training Ltd (DTL) has helped a group of 'future leaders' from gas network management company SGN to build key management skills.
Nine SGN employees successfully completed the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 course.
The 18-month course was delivered by SGN's training team with DTL, a leading utilities training specialist with learning centres throughout the UK, including at Linlithgow near Edinburgh and in Northern Ireland.
The participants, all from Scotland, comprised existing SGN employees joining the company's management programme and graduates recruited to the business as trainee managers.
Project-based work is a key theme of the ILM programme. The delegates responded enthusiastically and put forward a number of 'real world' new business ideas, one of which has already been implemented by SGN.
Clive Lawrence-Forbes, Head of Corporate Management Development at DTL, said: "Senior managers want the next generation to be looking for opportunities, and coming up with new ideas. It is part of what they look for in future leaders. Candidates come away from the ILM course knowing what they need to do when leading teams to success."
SGN Employee Development Officer Joanna MacLaine said candidates had learned how to "manage projects and finance, deal with difficult situations and different personalities, and manage conflict situations". The company's Head of Technical Learning, Neil Snell, described the presentations that form an element of the course as "part of the learning that they [the candidates] are getting to become future leaders of the company."
