CASE STUDIES
Defence
Estate Change Initiative
Some major initiatives have
been put into place which, in
the next few years, will change
the face of Defence Estate management
across the MOD. These strategies
will have a direct effect on
their training requirements
and Develop are involved in
continuing consultations to
find the best way forward.
Defence
Estate Consultancy
As a consequence of the commitment
made during the 1998 Strategic
Defence Review to achieve a
more coherent corporate approach
to the management of the Estate
and the subsequent implementation
of 'Project Alexander', major
changes have and are taking
place within Defence Estates
(DE) and MOD. This impacted
on the MOD Safety Rules and
Procedures and a need arose
to have them amended and updated.
Develop was involved in working
groups set up by DE, initially
to update the MOD's Electrical
Regulations only. However, as
a result of recommendations
by the 2nd Permanent Under Secretary,
the remit of this work was expanded
to include: the review of all
appointed personnel and their
appointment, the governance
structure; and a review of the
audit regimes for all of the
Safety Rules. The volume of
work led DE to approach Develop
to support them on a consultancy
basis. Some very tight timescales
were imposed on DE to have the
work completed, and Develop
was successful in achieving
these on DE's behalf.
