CASE STUDIES
Many organisations have requirements
for first aid training that
extend beyond statutory first
aid at work. Develop provides
tailored programmes to meet
specific requirements:
First Aiders working on the
Thames
Barrier and members of
the Confined Spaces First Response
Team require training to deal
with the rescue and transportation
of casualties in the case of
a serious accident. We worked
with the Environment Agency
to design a tailored programme,
which started in June 2003.
Staff taking part in these first
aid training events are also
participating in confined spaces
safety training provided by
Develop.
Staff from the Central
Science Laboratory take
part in annual first aid at
work scenario training. Incidents
which could be encountered are
replicated using actors and
make up. Teams of first aiders
are judged on their ability
to deal with the casualties.
Bettys
& Taylors, a well-known
Yorkshire family business, is
committed to training staff
to their full potential. In
addition to on-site scenario
training, First aid at Work
updates and refreshers, Emergency
Aid in the home courses are
available to those who do not
have on official role, but would
like to know about first aid
techniques. All new First Aiders
at Work also take part in specialised
anaphylaxis and auto-injector
training.
So that children who have severe
allergic reactions can also
take part in holiday activities,
all leisure staff at Harrogate
Borough Council take
part in anaphylaxis and auto-injector
training.
