Description:

To give students an understanding of the hazards associated with asbestos including: the precautions necessary to limit the effects of the materials on anyone likely to come into contact with asbestos, and; the law relating to the control of asbestos in the working environment.

Training Purpose:

The course covers: Legal documentation relating to Asbestos in the work place, health effects resulting from expose to Asbestos, types of asbestos likely encountered in the working environmentow asbestos is identified and analysed, an outline of the methods of treatment and removal, company policy and procedures associated with Asbestos and the requirements of Asbestos waste disposal. The course involves lectures, discussions, case studies and demonstrations including provision of handouts and certificates.

Those whose work may bring them into contact with asbestos products and who need to be able to recognise the risks and act accordingly.

• Discuss the origins of Asbestos and where it is found
• Outline the health hazards caused by asbestos and its routes of entry into the body
• Identify the locations/products where asbestos containing materials are likely to be found
• Outline the basic occupiers duties in relation to asbestos
• Contrast the difference between licensed removal of asbestos and non licensed work with asbestos
• Identify correct control measures for non licensed work with asbestos
