Description:
This half day course/workshop provides an awareness of accessing underground structures (confined spaces) and the inherent dangers from falling and dangerous atmospheres. The course provides basic underpinning knowledge to plan, enter, work and exit such areas, including access via a vertical shaft.
Who would Benefit:
For any person who has to use a safety harness to work at height, or below ground level. The course is designed to ensure that all employees who are required to use this equipment and are competent to manage them in order to safely complete essential work. This course also covers awareness of potential confined space working.

- Personal protection and hygiene requirements
- Risk assessing residual hazards
- Types of gaseous atmospheres, portable gas monitoring equipment and its use
- Working at Height Regulations 2005 (overview)
- Standards of harnesses acceptable in the workplace
- Inspection regime and identifying defects
- Selecting, verifying function and integrity of equipment (PUWER) and (LOLER)
- Selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Correct selection and use of harnesses
Training Information:
The maximum number of delegates is 10 per course
There may be a physical element requiring an exercise into a below ground structure. Delegates must confirm their fitness to undertake any practical element.
Delegates must provide their own safety footwear, waterproof clothing, hard hat and working gloves.
This a half-day event commencing generally at 0900 ending 1300 hours.
