What is Legionella?
Exposure to Legionella Bacteria and other organisms that can live and multiply within water systems may cause disease, particularly Legionnaires' Disease, so called because it was first identified in the US during an American Legion Convention in 1976.
There is an approved code of practice (L8) which relates to the prevention or control of risks from Legionella Bacteria. For information, definitions and the legislation see the HSE Legionella website.
The presence of Legionella bacteria in the water supply is a particular concern. Even if there is no outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease employers and site managers can still face a prosecution if the bacteria is detected.
What courses are offered?
Develop Training offer a wide range of courses for those involved in the control and management of Legionella bacteria from awareness to operations and management. Legionella safety training courses cover a range of topics including the proper installation, maintenance and monitoring of domestic and non-domestic water systems, air-conditioning and cooling towers, swimming pools, unvented hot water systems and cleaning and disinfection procedures to minimise the risks from Legionella bacteria. What is the Legionella Control Association?
The LCA is an organisation set up to promote good practice in the management of Legionella risk. The LCA has a code of practice for its members which means that customers of LCA member organisations should receive an audited standard of service, Develop Training is proud to have been a member of the LCA for many years in relation to the delivery of training services and we understand the code in relation to the services delivered by member clients.

In what areas of the UK can you provide Legionella training? Develop Training has five purpose built training facilities across the UK offering Legionella training; Scotland, York, Swindon, Bolton and Derby.
Can I undertake training at my premises?
Delivery of Legionella courses can be undertaken on the employer’s premises where delegate numbers make this practicable.
Can you customise Legionella courses to suit our particular requirements?

If I have a group of people needing Legionella training, can I get a discount?
This may be possible, if you speak to one of our training advisors they may be able to create a bespoke event which will work out cheaper for your organisation.
Do I need to bring documentation used in my company?
This not essential, but please feel free to bring any documentation you use as it can help put the course in to context for your own organisation and procedures.
I have paid for a Legionella course, what happens now?
We will send you a range of documents which will contain: your receipt of payment and invoice, the Legionella training course notes, a map to the location you have chosen, joining instructions and your delegate booking form. In case you have any questions, we are available on 0800 876 6708 to answer any enquires or concerns that you may have.
How long does it take for my certificate to come through?
This usually takes 4-6 weeks.
