TAQA Level 4 Certificate for Working Competency

A City & Guilds accredited programme to develop the skills and knowledge of those involved in the assessment and/or quality assurance of accredited awards and working environmental competencies.

Delegates attending the course, which can take up to 9 months depending on requirements, as there are two awards and a certificate available at Level 4, must be able to assess two different assessors who both have a minimum of two candidates that they are assessing. You also need to take the lead or an active role in two standardisation meetings.

Unit 403 is an additional unit; however you must lead quality assurers/verifiers who manage other quality assurers in order to undertake this.

What you will learn

The TAQA qualifications consist of a mix of units - some are competence based and some knowledge based. The knowledge only unit (Understanding the principals and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment) allows anyone who is interested in, or needs to know about internal quality assurance, but is not a practitioner, to acquire knowledge and understanding.

Unit 401: Understanding the principles and practice of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment

  • A knowledge only Award for those who need to know about internal quality assurance, but who are not carrying out quality assurance themselves. These may be for experienced assessors or centre managers, for example.

Unit 402: Internally assure the Quality of Assessment

  • For practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation, by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.

Unit 403: Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

  • This is an additional unit; however, you must lead quality assurance and manage other internal quality assurers. For practitioners who lead the internal quality assurance process and have a responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process, practice and the performance of assessors and internal quality assurers. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.

How is this training delivered?

The objective of the programme is to develop the knowledge and skills of the delegate while they progress through the process. In doing so, they will generate the appropriate evidence for their TAQA qualification. The following summarises how this can be delivered as candidate(s) are given one-to-one support and can work towards the qualification at their individual pace, taking into account work commitments.

  • Day One Induction Day - induction and explanation of TAQA Programme - provided at client's site.
  • Throughout the programme - use of Learning Assistant to manage the program and portfolio build by each candidate.
  • Registration will take place through Awarding Body for each candidate who attended induction and has completed registration documentation.
  • On-going monthly contact, via email or telephone for general queries, problem solving, advice and guidance.
  • Midway Interim Internal Verification for each candidate inducted and registered.
  • Scheduled during programme - Observation Day, discussions and final assessment - one day per candidate at their site location.
  • Final Internal Verification of program for each candidate inducted and registered.
  • Certification after completion subject to internal verification process.

Throughout the programme there would be regular phone/email reviews to establish progress and action planning.

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • City and Guilds certification.

Do you need to bring anything with you?

  • Workbook and all training material hand-outs will be supplied upon attendance of the course. No pre-course work is necessary. The workshop is an interactive event encouraging delegates to consider their day to day workplace activities and apply key skills and techniques.
  • Delegates are also registered on to "Learning Assistant" - an electronic portfolio system offering remote access to the learner and assessor interface. The systems is used to upload assignments for the qualification, prior to the commencement of the course. We provide log in details and instructions on how to use this before the induction day.

  • If you want to gain this qualification more rapidly, there is an intensive five day option but we do need a minimum of eight candidates.
