• An awareness of valves, pumps and pumping systems, refrigeration systems, air conditioning systems, compressed air systems, internal combustion engines.
• An awareness of boilers and associated plant, fuel storage and handling, combustion of fuels, heat transfer. Water treatments, sampling and testing.
• Statutory inspections and safe systems of work.

• Learners can bring with them any materials used by their own employer, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
