Course overview

A 4 day training and re-assessment course to install, commission, exchange or remove primary or secondary Low Pressure gas meters of capacity up to and including 6 m³/h.

This course combines:

  • CMA1 (Core domestic and non-domestic gas metering work)
  • MET 1 (Natural gas domestic gas meters with a maximum capacity not exceeding 6 m³/h)

Pre-requisite/entry requirements

Candidates must bring with them evidence of the previously achieved qualification in the same subject to enable us to commence training, if expired by over 12 months on the day of assessment, the initial route shall be taken.

If Develop Training doubts the authenticity of the information presented by the applicant, they will decline access to the ACS assessment.

What you will learn

  • Gas safety legislation and standards.
  • Gas emergency actions and procedures.
  • Products and characteristics of combustion.
  • Ventilation (for domestic and non-domestic appliances).
  • Installation of pipework and fittings (outlet pipework).
  • Tightness testing and purging.
  • Checking and/or setting meter regulators.
  • Unsafe situations, use of emergency notices and warning labels.
  • Operation and positioning of ECV, isolation controls and valves.
  • Chimney Standards.
  • Re-establish existing gas supply and re-light appliances.

What qualifications will you achieve?

  • Upon successful completion learners will be issued with an ERS accredited qualification in CMA1 & MET1. Gas Safe Register will be notified of all certification results by ERS allowing the individual or employer to apply for Gas Safe Registration.

How is this training delivered?

  • The training is delivered on days 1 and 2 by a combination of theoretical and practical sessions.
  • The assessment is split into 3 areas, Theory - multiple choice questionnaires (both open and closed book), Practical Observations and Practical Assessment Workbook Scenarios. Candidates must achieve a pass in all 3 areas.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Learners must bring their current ACS certificates, Gas Safe card, two passport photographs, tools and PPE - including Safety boots, glasses, gloves and clothing suitable for practical work.
  • All reference materials will be provided.
