Water Hygiene/Competent Person (Healthcare) (WS4)
Course overview
A course written to give personnel a basic awareness of water hygiene so that they understand the need for good hygiene and how they can prevent contamination of the water supply and outlets to ensure patient safety is never compromised.
The focus is the requirements stated in HTM04-01 Parts A/B/C, which gives guidance on the legal requirements, design applications, maintenance and operation of hot and cold water supply, storage and distribution systems in all types of premises.
The Water Safety Group should implement a programme of staff training to ensure that those appointed to carry out control measures, undertake associated monitoring and cleaning of outlets, are appropriately informed, instructed and trained. It is also essential that they have an overall appreciation of the practices affecting water hygiene and safety. They should also be assessed as to their competency.
This course will lay the foundations and cover the required learning objectives for staff to comply with HTM 04:01 Part B 6.27 – 6.30.
The course has no pre-requisites however those that are responsible for cleaning water outlets may find a WS11 (Legionella Awareness & ACOP L8) course before WS4 important.
