Develop is seeking a dynamic Head of Sales to lead our company’s expansion efforts through innovative B2C and B2B models. This pivotal senior role focuses on winning new business, growing existing accounts, and increasing our market share.

As the Head of Sales, you will strategically identify and research prospective sales opportunities, ensuring they align with our company’s objectives and deliver profitable solutions. Your responsibilities include building and developing high-performing sales and marketing teams to enhance overall effectiveness.

You will be instrumental in converting prospects into qualified leads and transforming these leads into repeat sales, all while working towards ambitious annual targets set in collaboration with the Managing Director. What will you be doing?

Principal Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the senior leadership team to design and spearhead the overarching sales strategy to include the design and operating model of the sales function. Conduct regular reviews of the sales product portfolio to ensure optimal performance of the sales function at both individual and team levels, driving the business forward with visionary leadership.
  • Market Expansion: Utilise comprehensive research and analysis, including strategic procurement exercises, to identify and target profitable sales. Focus on high-potential key accounts, including those previously underutilised in the past two financial years, to expand the company’s market reach.
  • Revenue Growth: Drive the conversion of prospects into high value leads with the goal of achieving and surpassing ambitious annual targets at the required margin agreed upon with the Managing Director.
  • Oversee and Integrate Marketing and Communications Strategies: Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communication plans that support the sales initiatives, enhance brand visibility, and effectively communicate the value proposition to target audiences. This includes managing digital marketing campaigns, content creation, public relations efforts, and coordinating group marketing and sales team focus to ensure cohesive messaging and branding across all channels.
  • Client Engagement: Develop and execute robust annual client engagement plans, incorporating detailed feedback loops to continually enhance the customer experience. Implement agreed adjustments to support client satisfaction and retention whilst delivering a profitable offer.
  • Networking and Brand Promotion: Strategise and manage an annual calendar of professional network events, seminars, and trade conferences. Leverage Develop’s professional memberships to maximise sales opportunities and promote the JTL and Develop brands effectively.
  • Sales Conversion: Lead the transformation of leads into confirmed sales, ensuring the achievement of annual sales targets. Oversee the sales pipeline, setting and monitoring key milestones to report on performance and meet or exceed target expectations.
  • Performance Management: Facilitate highly effective collaboration across the senior leadership team through regular and timely review meetings. Assess contract performance against plans and swiftly implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Customer Insight: Provide actionable customer feedback to operations and delivery teams, identifying new opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Tender Leadership: Lead initiatives on new tender opportunities, coordinating with stakeholders across the JTL Group to align strategies and efforts.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire and lead the sales team with high-level support and coaching to achieve individual and collective KPI targets. Proactively identify and address staffing needs to ensure the business meets its strategic goals and budget expectations.
  • Executive Reporting: Deliver timely and accurate management information and insights to the Managing Director and Leadership Team, supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Vision and Values Promotion: Champion and promote Develop’s Vision and Values within and outside the organisation.
  • Executive Coverage: Assume Managing Director responsibilities as needed during periods of absence, and perform other managerial duties as required by the business.


Person Specification

  • Qualifications: a degree-level qualification is desirable
  • Proven Experience: Extensive experience working at a senior level in new business development and securing large sales opportunities, with a track record of year-on-year revenue growth.
  • Team Management: Demonstrated experience in managing and developing high-performing sales teams.
  • Tender Expertise: Strong background in handling tenders and current practices in procurement-led sales opportunities.
  • Commercial Acumen: Highly commercially astute with strategic awareness and insight.
  • Energetic Leadership: Possesses a natural drive for generating and driving improvements, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Influential Negotiator: Exceptional ability to influence and negotiate at senior levels, both internally and externally.
  • Proactive Attitude: Self-driven with a positive, can-do attitude and a strong desire to achieve and exceed targets.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership capabilities with a proven ability to engage and inspire teams.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic environment, with the flexibility to adapt to change and maintain high performance levels.
