Specialist training for electrical persons

Develop Training’s courses are ideal for Competent Persons, Authorised Persons, Engineers and Managers, with responsibility for Electrical High Voltage and Low Voltage systems.

18th Edition BS7671 training course

Our 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) courses provides learners with a strong working knowledge of the latest version of this core industry standard, including the updated requirements introduced by Amendment 2:2022. It covers the 18th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, which came into force in June 2008. These regulations are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS7671).

All practising electricians must comply with the electrical regulations when carrying out electrical work. The qualification is designed to provide those seeking progression in their career with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with the electrotechnical industry.

What does BS7671 cover?

The IET Wiring Regulations BS7671 are the definitive standard for the electrical industry in respect of safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. They set requirements and operating criteria for the UK and correspond to EC standards. They are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS7671). The purpose of the regulations is to ensure that practicing electricians are conversant with the format, content and application of the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2022.

Our MoD electrical and mechanical training courses have been specifically designed for engineering staff working with high and low voltage distribution equipment on MoD estates who have been nominated to the role of Authorised Person, Responsible Person, Nominated Person or Competent Person when working with HV and LV electrical systems in MoD establishments.

By the end of our training, individuals will be able to:

  • Understand statutory safety regulations relating to HV/LV safe working practices
  • Follow procedures defined by JSP 375 Volume Chapter 3
  • Carry out HV pressure testing of cables and vacuum circuit breakers
  • Understand and operate HV protection systems
  • Practically carry out earthing of switchgear and cables
  • Carry out live HV phasing
  • Complete operating records and documentation
  • …and more

Electrical training for Authorising Engineers

We understand the indispensable role played by Authorising Engineers (AE’s) in upholding electrical safety and compliance within the highly regulated healthcare and defence industries. Our

Our Authorising Engineer training programmes places a strong emphasis on compliance with industry-specific standards, including legislation and safe systems of work. We also introduce delegates to the relevant health & safety legislation within the UK, the need for safety management systems and the structure, role and responsibilities of AE’s and AP’s.

Whether you’re an experienced Authorising Engineer (AE) or Authorised Person (AP) seeking to enhance your proficiency or just embarking on your journey, our courses are thoughtfully crafted to accommodate all experience levels. Through the integration of the latest industry best practices, cutting-edge technologies, and immersive, hands-on training, we empower you to proficiently manage, authorise, and maintain electrical installations in a wide variety of settings of healthcare and defense.

Electrical training for Authorised Persons

We offer a range of electrical and mechanical training courses for Authorised Persons, including those working on industrial or commercial systems and equipment.

Our City and Guild’s accredited Authorised Person (AP) training courses enable delegates to gain the knowledge required to carry our Authorised Person duties and responsibilities.

Key learning points for our Authorised Person: Low Voltage training course include:

  • Requirements of statutory regulation/legislation. Statutory Safety Regulations (EAWR 89). Safety Regulations and procedures under HSG 85.
  • Safe Systems of Work (House Rules).
  • British Standard (BS) 7671 Institute Electrical Engineers (IEE) Current Wiring Regulations.
  • Application of EAWR 89 to LV installations.
  • Local Safe Systems of Work.
  • Issue of Permits to Work.
  • Procedures for Live Working.
  • Operating records and documentation.

Our electrical and mechanical AP courses are aimed at engineering professionals working in MoD, commercial, industrial, healthcare, HMPS, NHS environments who may have responsibility for the control, operation or maintenance of installed low voltage and/or high voltage systems and who may be appointed as Authorised Person.

What are the duties of an MoD Authorised Person?

The Authorised Person on duty has the overall responsibility for the practical implementation and operation of the Electricity Safety Rules and Procedures from which the Safety Rule Book for Persons in Charge of Work on Electrical Systems is derived.

Electrical training for Competent Persons

Our Competent Person: Low Voltage training course allows delegates to achieve a recognised City & Guilds accredited certificate for a safe system of work in an electrical discipline with compliance to HSG85 Safe Working Practices. The course provides suitable training as laid down by the Electricity at Work Act.

Specialist mechanical training for AP’s, Healthcare and Defence

Develop Training provide a range of mechanical safety courses that replicate the latest methods and practices in mechanical engineering, ideal for Authorising Engineers,

Develop Training provide a range of mechanical safety courses that replicate the latest methods and practices in mechanical engineering, ideal for Authorising Engineers, Authorised Persons, Competent Persons and Mechanical Engineers. Specialist mechanical training is also available for the Defence and Healthcare sectors, meeting the most up to date legislation outlined in the Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) and Joint Service Publication (JSP’s).

Mechanical AP training covers topics relating to boilers and pressure systems, petroleum and mechanical engineer training as well as the wider range of mechanical training courses in boiler house management, FGas and pressure systems.

Multi-skilled mechanical engineers

Develop Training provide options for engineers to gain multiple skills across different disciplines, through conversion based training solutions including electrical to mechanical conversion and mechanical to electrical conversion. Skilling your engineers in this way can help with managing workforce planning to a tight budget.

Understanding pressure systems for compliance

Mechanical services such as pressure systems can cause serious injury and damage if health and safety rules are not followed. Companies risk heavy fines and reputational damage if incidents occur.

It is vital that employers understand their duties and responsibilities, and have the correct systems and procedures in place, to ensure the safety of those operating and maintaining pressure systems and other mechanical services.

Developing competence in-house ensures that safe working policies and written systems of examination can be tailored to your individual equipment and process requirements and any sector-specific regulations, while still meeting professional standards.

Electrical and Mechanical Safe systems of work

We have experience in helping clients create safe systems of work policies, where they are not already in place. In some cases, the successful completion of individual mechanical training units may be used as evidence to support the completion of different award schemes.

Practical, hands on Electrical and Mechanical training

Our safety training is delivered at purpose built mechanical engineer training facilities, based on real life working environments and provide practical, hands on experience on the latest mechanical equipment. This provides learners with the platform to enhance and grow their skills throughout the course of their career. Courses are delivered through our open programme of mechanical safety training courses or on an ‘as required’ basis either at our training centres or on-site at your premises. Simply contact us to find out more.

Many of our mechanical engineer courses can be tailored to your companies own policies and/or safe systems procedures.
