Authorised Person: Low and High Voltage (MOD) (AP1)
Course overview
Course for suitably experienced mechanical and electrical personnel who have been nominated for appointment as authorised persons (electrical) with respect to high voltage and low voltage distribution systems. Learners attending this course, who are to be appointed under MOD Safety Rules, should be in possession of a completed and countersigned log book at the beginning of the course.

What you’ll learn on this course
- Requirements of statutory regulation/legislation.
- Mandatory Safety Regulations and procedures (JSP 375 Vol. 3).
- HV Switchgear operation and maintenance. HV sub-station equipment and operation and maintenance.
- HV ring and radial network operation.
- Application of Electricity Safety Regulations to HV distribution systems.
- LV distribution switchgear and equipment.
- Application of Electricity Safety Regulations to HV distribution systems.
- Issue of permit to Work.
- Issue of Sanction to Test.
- Operating records and documentation.
- Testing/commissioning of HV electrical distribution equipment.
What do I need to bring with Me?
- Learners can bring with them any materials used by their own employer, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
- Learners should bring safety boots and safety glasses, and waterproof clothing for outdoor practical exercises.
How is the training delivered?
- Learners complete practical exercises that involve the management, application and control of documentation.
- Learners are continually assessed, both in written and practical exercises, and there are opportunities to work with a wide range of equipment that will support their knowledge in the field.
- This course can be intense, it includes evening work, both the reading of course materials and completion of projects.
Qualifications available
- The output from this course is a recommendation to support an Authorising Engineer's decision when considering the appointment of Authorised Person's.

No requirement for exercise permits to be given for wvenings. Written permit evening exercises are achievable in the working day, and would be more effective and beneficial if conducted in class, to go through and get feedback whilst writing.
