Providing mandatory NRSWA Street works training courses

Streetworks training is compulsory for any person working on or adjacent to the public highways, and is the legal route to achieving essential qualifications – which often must be renewed every five years.

Selecting the right New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) training course or combination of courses to enable operatives and supervisors to work safely and effectively on public highways is straight forward with Develop Training. You can trust in our capability to devise and appropriately update a comprehensive range of NRSWA training courses and reassessments, each of which complies with the Streetworks 1992 Traffic Management Act.

Within our range of NRSWA Streetworks training courses, there is an appropriate programme to accredit every skill level, from operatives to supervisors, managers and administrative staff.

Updating courses, improving skill

We work hard to meet the mandatory requirements of the NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act), so all our dedicated streetworks training courses are regularly updated to qualify with traffic management training standards and assessment prerequisites; enabling your staff to be competent, and your company to be compliant.

What is NRSWA Street Works?

The New Roads & Street Works training offered by Develop Training, is in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. The act enforces duty on any person or organisation who will be undertaking work that involves the installation, renewal, maintenance or inspection of underground apparatus on streets or roads. This is to ensure the work is under the control of a competent person.

How long does a NRSWA card last?

If you hold a New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) card you will notice that it is usually valid for 5 years and will have an expiry date. You may have more than one unit on your card that could expire on different dates. If your NRSWA card is about to expire don’t panic, you can either take a full NRSWA reassessment course or a refresher course (dependent on your individual requirements).

My NRSWA card is about to expire

Develop’s offers two NRSWA Re-Assessment training courses:

NRSWA R2for individuals who need to be re-assessed to renew their SWQR Streetworks card for O3 – O8 / S3 – S7 (Units 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16).

NRSWA R1for individuals who need to be re-assessed to renew their SWQR Streetworks card for LA + O1, O2 / S1, S2 (Units 1, 2, 3, 10, 11).

Each course is for a duration of one day and is designed for operatives and supervisors who already hold the New Roads & Street Works (NRSWA) card and need to refresh their existing knowledge in order to renew their SWQR registration for a further 5 years.

Delegates are required to take a refresher course every five years after carrying out work on public highways.

The NRSWA Re-Assessment process has been introduced to improve the standards of workers on highways, following new regulations that came into force in April 2010.

If your Street Works card is about to or has already expired you will need to take a re-assessment course.

You will only have 6 months prior to and after expiry to take your re-assessment course so it’s always best to book your course as soon as possible as many courses have long waiting lists and are high in demand.

If you do not complete your training in this time period, you will have to re-take the entire course again.
